Do you want to know why people fail at social media?

Do you wonder why some people seem to do way better at it than others?

Do you wonder how you could be doing it better?

After working in social media since it emerged on the scene for businesses as a digital marketing tool, I’ve seen a lot and I have observed a lot as well. The biggest reason most companies fail on social media is not because they have bad posts, are on the wrong platforms, use the wrong hashtags, or even post at the wrong times. (Though many of these things can hurt you on some level.) The biggest reason companies fail on social media is actually because they fail to be consistent.

Whoa! Yes, you heard that right. Consistency is the key to success. The same thing that will help you lose ten pounds, finish a marathon, and even read more will help your brand do better on social media.

There’s no silver bullet or pill you can take.

You simply need to do the work. Day in and day out.

Why does consistency matter so much?

Consistency is vital for success online because it is a noisy world out there. If you are going to get noticed on social media you have to make sure that you can show up enough times for people to know what you are all about. According to most sales cycle stats, they have to see your brand at least seven times before purchasing, which means you need to show up regularly enough for your customers online to see you at least seven times. Also, each platform has an algorithm, so by posting consistently, you are reaching people at different days and times of day over the course of time and working with the algorithm to ensure that you are seen regularly enough by the majority of your audience. However, the most simple reason why consistency is so important is because it shows the world that you are still out there crushing it in your industry. When you go radio silent on social media, the world starts to wonder if you’re still in business. Don’t let people question the status of your company one bit due to a lack of social media content!

So, if consistency is so important, how can we get better at it?

  1. Content Calendars: We are big fans of mapping out a strategy for your content and putting some thought to what themes and topics you need to work through over the course of a timeframe. Once you have this roadmap, you can fill in from there.
  2. Work Ahead: In today’s world, there are so many ways to schedule content to go live. It really makes for little excuses. Scheduling ahead allows you to go into crazy seasons with confidence, knowing that you have social media content ready to go.
  3. Batch Your Work: Doing work in larger batches and chunks allows you to be more strategic and focused, while accomplishing a lot of work all at once. Once the posts and content are created, you can release it with minimal work later on.
  4. Enlist Help. No one ever said that your social media strategy must be done alone. Find people on your team to help you strategize and execute. Find experts to help you maximize your efforts and help you stay on top of the latest trends.

You don’t have to admit this to anyone but yourself, but raise your hand if you have struggled with consistency in your social media marketing in the last year. I’m guessing most of us are raising our hands because it’s a common struggle. But, IF you can find a solution that allows your brand to stay consistent, you can adjust and tweak your strategy to fit the latest trends and really see your brand succeed on social media!
