Do Unto Others As You Would Have Them Do To You On Social Media

Professionals Helping Professionals – Digitally

Denver Social Media Instructor, Social Media Coach Tintero Creative, Content MarketingI never realized I would have so many friends, until I started my own business.  Suddenly, I was surrounded by a huge community of people who truly want to see you succeed and be your friend.  They are in your shoes too; it may be a different industry, but they understand who you are as an entrepreneur.  They also know what you have invested in order to make your business succeed.

As our world goes digital, this community of entrepreneurs and business professionals increases exponentially.  This digital culture provides a number of ways to provide support to fellow businesses and individuals in your circle.  The Golden Rule now has a number of digital applications and allows us numerous opportunities to help others out each day.

Here are a few good ways:

  1. “Like” Them.  As a social media manager, I know that it’s the quality, not quantity, of “likes” on a Facebook page that make the difference.  However, I also know that many outsiders make passing judgments on businesses based on how many followers they have.  Often a great way to show support to a friend is to like or follow their social media profiles.  Look around to see if they are on multiple platforms and show them some love by following all of their profiles.
  2. Interact With Their Brand Online.  While it’s a great gesture to follow someone on social media, it’s even better to interact with the content that they post.  By liking, commenting, or sharing a post on Facebook, you help that brand get more organic exposure.  This makes their brand look more legitimate to the Facebook algorithm and therefore reduces how much that brand might have to “pay” to get their message out to their audience. Retweeting and tagging is a great way on Twitter to help other profiles get exposure as well.  Of course, every profile is different, but just remember that any interactions you do with a brand or persona on social media, DOES help them out!
  3. Rave About Them.  If you’ve had a great experience with a brand or person online, the best thing you can do is share that with the public and their audience.  By leaving a review on Google, Facebook, or Yelp, you can help the public eye know just how great they are.  On LinkedIn, personal recommendations and endorsements are pure gold.  Often LinkedIn prompts you to endorse someone for a particular skill, and it’s very easy to give them without fully believing in that endorsement.  However, a recommendation is a custom-written account from a real person.  It took someone a few minutes to write that, and therefore it holds a little more weight in my opinion.
  4. Support Them.  Business owners are used to going to their online community to look for great talent to join their team.  They may post job postings or ask for recommendations for service providers.  You can be a great asset to your professional colleagues by simply paying attention to the requests people ask online.

There truly is power in the online community, and I’ve had the opportunity to see that power in action through my business, and my clients’ businesses through social media.  The possibilities are truly endless.  Whether you have the opportunity to help a friend out today, or someday in the future, don’t forget to take the opportunity to support a fellow business professional digitally!

Last, but not least…Thank You to all who have supported Tintero Creative and Valerie Morris out online!
